TOURNAMENT TRAVEL REIMBURSEMENT

Tournament reimbursements are designed to cover a referee's travel expenses for attending a tournament.   In general, a tournament is an event involving more than six clubs.  Organizations running tournaments or other such events will be assessed $150 per referee for the first day of the tournament and $100 for the second day of the tournament, provided the guidelines set forth below in the “Number of Referees” section are followed and provided the second day of the tournament ends within 4 hours of that day's start time.  If the second day of the tournament ends after that time, the $150 rate applies for the second day.

Should a referee need to travel more than 75 miles in one direction for the tournament, an additional travel reimbursement of $30 is required. Should a referee need to travel more than 125 miles in one direction for the tournament, an additional travel reimbursement of $50 is required. Should a referee need to travel more than 200 miles in one direction for the tournament, an additional travel reimbursement of $70 is required. In addition, it is the responsibility of the host club or organization to provide tournament T-shirts (when applicable) and food and drinks and shelter during the event for the referees.

For one-day tournaments, the host club or organization must provide lodging for each non-local ref for one night that travels more than 125 miles one-way, either the night before or the night after the tournament.  For two-day tournaments, the host club or organization must provide two-nights’ lodging.  Refs willing to share rooms stay free of charge.  Refs desiring their own rooms must pay ½ the cost of the lodging.

For two-day tournaments, the host club or organization must provide each referee $30 for dinner on Saturday night.  For one-day tournaments that end past 5 p.m., the host club or organization must provide each referee $30 to cover the cost of his or her dinner.    The host club or organization must also provide lunch for each referee on each tournament day.   If lunch is not provided, the host will provide each referee $15 per tournament day.

Tournament and event travel reimbursements will be collected prior to, or at the event, by the referees, unless the tournament meets certain invoice requirements.

NUMBER OF REFEREES

From a match assignment and scheduling perspective, a 15’s tournament referee will be scheduled up to 3 matches per day.  For a 7’s tournament, a referee will be scheduled up to 5 matches per day.  For 15’s and 7’s tournaments, three referees per pitch is required. For a 10’s tournament, a referee will be scheduled up to 4 matches per day.  For 15’s, 10's, and 7’s tournaments, a minimum of three referees per pitch is required. In the event of a shortage of referees, assignments over the maximums will result in increased per day travel reimbursements, which are intended to cover additional lodging, meals, and other incidentals associated with an increase in workload or a longer reffing day.  For 15’s tournaments, the travel reimbursement increases $30 for each match, beginning with the 4th match of the day. For 7’s tournaments, the travel reimbursement increases $30 for each match, beginning with the 6th match of the day.  For 10’s tournaments, the travel reimbursement increases $30 for each match, beginning with the 5th match of the day.

Just by way of example, if a ref travels 160 miles to a one-day 7’s tournament and refs 9 matches and the tournament ends after 5 pm, the travel reimbursement is $350, broken down as follows: $150 tournament rate, $120 for 4 additional 7’s matches over the maximum of 5, $50 for traveling in excess of 125 miles one-way, and $30 for dinner (tournament ended after 5 pm).  By the same token, if a ref travels 160 miles to a one-day 15’s tournament and refs 4 matches and the tournament ends after 5 pm, the travel reimbursement is $260, broken down as follows: $150 tournament rate, $30 for 1 additional 15’s match over the maximum of 3, $50 for traveling in excess of 125 miles one-way, and $30 for dinner (tournament ended after 5 pm).

For each tournament a head referee will be appointed.  He or she will be the contact for the tournament chair.  The head referee’s duties will include: handling all match assignments for the tournament; being the contact referee for the tournament chair; and answering any questions of law that may arise.

SEND OFFS DURING TOURNAMENT

Under current national and local disciplinary guidelines, any send-off results in a minimum and mandatory suspension of the player for the next match or eight days, whichever is longer. Thus, a send-off in a tournament results in the player no longer participating in the remainder of the tournament--in any capacity.  A ruling from the appropriate disciplinary chair will follow in the appropriate time frame.
